Sleigh returns to Dobbins Heights for Christmas tradition

DOBBINS HEIGHTS — Two white horses trotted through the streets Monday afternoon, pulling a sleigh filled with the young and young at heart.

Gold Leaf Carriage of Fuquay-Varina returned to Dobbins Heights for the annual sleigh ride and toy drop.

Escorted by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the sleigh route left the town’s park, and circled the block of Bethel Church Road, Channie McManus Drive and Perry Avenue before returning to the park as the riders sang Christmas carols.

Following the carriage rides, children filed through a picnic shelter to pick out presents — separated by age group — shirts and coats, and books from the Richmond County Partnership for Children.

Inside the Community Center, an elf passed out small gifts as Santa sat against a backdrop, waiting for kids to reveal their Christmas wishes.

The sleigh ride was sponsored by Enviva, a nearby wood pellet manufacturer, and the meal was provided by Entrepreneur Life, Inc. The sheriff’s office also provided some of the toys.
