ROCKINGHAM — No injuries were reported Tuesday following a plane crash at the Richmond County Airport.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the small plane had taken off from the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport earlier in the day.
The plane had landed on the grass field at the back of the Richmond County Airport and began fishtailing while trying to take back off, according to the sheriff's office. The plane wound up 200 yards into the woodline.
Neither the pilot nor passenger were injured, according to RCSO.
Multiple agencies responded including: the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office; Richmond County Rescue Squad; East Rockingham Fire Department; FirstHealth EMS; Richmond County Emergency Services; and the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
Although there were no injuries, there was a fuel leak on the plane, according to the sheriff’s office.
The FAA will be investigating the crash, according to RCSO.
