ROCKINGHAM — The lights will shine down on the stage of Richmond Community Theatre starting this weekend for a production of “Smoke on the Mountain.”
The downhome musical comedy is set at a church down the road in Mount Pleasant (Cabarrus County) in the late 1930s and follows the singing Sanders Family.
The popular play spawned two sequels, “Sanders Family Christmas,” performed by RCT in 2018, and “Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming,” produced the following year.
The cast, announced in January, features the following local actors:
Baucom also serves as the director of the production, with Gina Clarke as the musical director.
The play runs March 20-22 and 27-29. Showtime is 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays.

RCT produced the Southern comedy “Dearly Departed” in June 2025 and the prison drama “The Shawshank Redemption” in September 2025.
