SOUTHERN PINES — Another successful season for Talley Webb came to a close earlier this week.

The Richmond Senior High School sophomore golfer competed in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association postseason for the second straight year.

Qualifying for the 7A West regional championship, Webb played the 18-hole round at Longleaf Golf and Family Club Monday.

The only Lady Raider to make the individual playoffs, Webb was accompanied by head coach Kevin Wallace.

Starting on hole No. 10, Webb shot a 96 for the round.

In a field of 48 golfers, Webb finished tied for 34th. Her score was matched by Haidyn Woods (Purnell Swett High School) and Molly Bradner (Southwest Guilford High School).

Compared to her regional championship score from her freshman season, which was also played at Longleaf, Webb improved by six strokes (102 to 96).

“I’m very proud of Talley,” Wallace said. “Not just for how she played and handled herself at regionals, but how she was a leader for our program all season.

“It was a goal of Talley’s to return to regionals and improve,” he added. “While I know she wanted to make the state championship round, I’m sure she’s satisfied with how she played today on a tough course against some really good competition. This is a really good stepping stone for Talley for the next two years.”

Webb posted a 50 on the starting back nine and parred the 169-yard par four No. 17. She also had four bogeys on holes Nos. 11 and 14-16.

The front nine proved a bit more score friendly to end the day. Webb posted a 46 and also had one par on the 291-yard par five No. 5. Five bogeys on the front half came on holes No. 1, 3, 4, 6 and 8.

“Reflecting on regionals, I felt prepared, but felt like I could’ve done better with my putting,” Webb shared. “Even though the outcome wasn't quite what I hoped for, I’m still happy for the opportunity to represent Richmond in the playoffs.

“This second season was a big step up from my first,” she added. “My short game improved a lot thanks to practicing. Next year, I'm aiming for more consistency and hope to get into the state tournament.”

Freshman Elle Spence of Marvin Ridge High School won the regional title with a round score of 68. Marvin Ridge was also first in the team competition, ending the tournament with a score of 221.
