ROCKINGHAM — A South Carolina man is facing multiple drug charges, including trafficking, in Richmond and Scotland counties.

According to court documents, 29-year-old Hykeem Rayvon McLaurin, of McColl, South Carolina, was arrested Friday, Dec. 13 by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Warrants allege that McLaurin was in possession of:

  • 9.09 grams of crack cocaine
  • 16 ounces of promethazine hydrochloride (an antihistamine and sedative used to treat allergies)
  • More than 100 but less than 500 tablets of MDMA (ecstasy)
  • 74.28 grams of marijuana
  • Set of scales and a clear jar

McLaurin is also accused of being in possession of a stolen 2019 Chrysler 300S and pulling away from and trying to drive off from a deputy who was trying to arrest him.

He was arrested and charged with: two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; trafficking in MDA/MDMA; possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana; possession of a stolen motor vehicle; possession of drug paraphernalia; and resisting a public officer.

Records show he is also charged with the following in Scotland County: two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule I controlled substance; maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; unauthorized use of a motor vehicle; driving while license revoked; possession of drug paraphernalia; and giving fictitious information to an officer.

It appears the Scotland County charges are from a failure to appear in court.

McLaurin is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a combined $117,001 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 19 on the Richmond County charges and Dec. 20 on the Scotland County charges.

McLaurin appears to have no prior convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
