TROY — The wins kept coming for the Richmond Senior High School volleyball team Wednesday.

Playing their second of three non-conference matches this week, the Lady Raiders brought out the brooms in a 3-0 victory over Montgomery Central High School.

Earning its first three-set sweep of the season, Richmond cruised to victory with set score wins of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-17.

The win also extended the Lady Raiders’ winning streak to three straight matches after dropping its first contest of the season last Tuesday.

“This was another quality team win tonight,” head coach Ashleigh Larsen said. “All the girls got some playing time, which was a benefit for our team moving forward. We were able to capitalize and work on some things in order to prepare for conference play.

“It was obvious the girls had fun tonight, all while being aggressive and doing their jobs correctly,” she added. “They played with energy and played smart with a lead, which is encouraging.”

The Lady Raiders (3-1) will return home Thursday to close out their three-match week. Richmond will host non-conference Purnell Swett High School at 6:30 p.m.

JV Lady Raiders unable to hold onto early lead

Despite winning the first set in Wednesday’s match at Montgomery Central, the Richmond junior varsity volleyball team suffered a loss.

Going three sets with the JV Lady Timberwolves, the JV Lady Raiders lost 2-1. Set scores were 25-23, 14-25 and 11-15.

“Montgomery Central was very good defensively,” head coach Melissa Dennis said. “We got stuck in serve-receive and let too many mistakes lead to too many points against us.

“I ran a few different lineups tonight and had a few girls play different positions they weren’t familiar with. We’ll try to turn things around at home tomorrow.”

Also set to host Purnell Swett Thursday, the JV Lady Raiders (1-3) will begin at 5 p.m.
