ROCKINGHAM — Twenty participants put their strength to the test on Saturday in the second annual Lifting for a Cure at Top Guns Strength and Performance Gym.

The event was a fundraiser for the Juvenile Rheumatoid Foundation in honor of Charlotte Marks.

Marks, who was born with Down Syndrome, has also been diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, which has affected multiple joints on both sides of her body, according to a Facebook post leading up to the event.

The three-prong challenge, open to men and women, had participants seeing how much they could lift through squats, bench pressing or deadlift.

Owner Rex Crouch Jr. said Monday that the goal is to raise $2,000 — which he expects to be accomplished once the rest of the T-shirts are sold.

Crouch opened the downtown Rockingham gym in early 2022.
