ROCKINGHAM — A man suspected in a midday shooting on Thursday has been taken into custody and charged.
William Lewis Pratt, 31, of Hamlet, is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder for allegedly shooting Emerson Quick Jr. during the lunchtime hour on Thursday, May 7.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Quick called Richmond County Emergency Communications and reported he had been shot in the leg and in the chest. He was subsequently taken to the hospital by Hamlet Fire and Rescue for treatment.
Investigators reportedly identified Pratt as the suspect in the shooting and an arrest warrant was obtained. Pratt was reportedly taken into custody without incident. Records show he was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 11:24 p.m.
Pratt is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 21.
Online court records show Pratt has a pending charge of resisting a public officer from the Hamlet Police Department in February. An order for arrest was issued Feb. 26 when he allegedly failed to appear in court. Records show he also failed to appear in court March 19.
Pratt appears to have no prior convictions in North Carolina.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
