ASHEBORO — Using two double-digit scoring efforts on Tuesday, the Richmond Senior High School girls’ basketball team earned its first win of the season.
On the road at Uwharrie Charter Academy, the Lady Raiders cruised past the Lady Eagles 45-24.
Freshman point guard Jamyia Lindsey netted a game-high 16 points for Richmond, followed by 11 points from senior center Jamiya Ratliff.
“It was good to recover from the game last week,” Moseley said. “I thought the girls played better together as a team and it was a team win tonight. And that’s what we needed.”
Richmond jumped out to a 12-10 lead in the first quarter, and extended its advantage to eight points, 26-18, at the intermission.
Ratliff and Lindsey combined to score all of the Lady Raiders’ points in the opening stanza, scoring 7 and 5 points, respectively.
Sophomore forward Ryelan Lyerly opened the second quarter with a three-pointer off the glass for the first of her 5 points in the game. A baseline drive from Lindsey put Richmond ahead 17-12 midway through the quarter.
Getting her first start of the season, sophomore C’Niya Hinson joined the scoring with a triple from the left corner a couple of possessions later.
Two points each from Lindsey, Hinson and sophomore guard Keyoni Nichols in the final two minutes kept the Lady Raiders ahead.

“C’Niya had a good week at practice and I thought she deserved the start,” Moseley said. “She stepped up tremendously on the offensive end and had some defensive plays. She executed and was aggressive and that’s what’s going to get players on the floor.”
A slow third quarter by both teams’ offense led to just six points for Richmond and four more from Uwharrie Charter (4-1).
The Lady Raiders responded in the final quarter by starting on an 11-0 run. Junior guard C’Nedra Hinson got on the board with the first two of her 4 points in the opening 15 seconds, and added a basket two possessions later.
Lindsey capped her scoring performance with 5 points in the fourth, and Ratliff spun her way through the paint for the final of her 11 points. Lyerly hit a deep jump shot with 2:43 left in the game.
Kristen Jensen scored a team-high 8 points for the Lady Eagles, followed by 7 points from Gabi Greene. Lily Charlesworth added 5 points in the loss, and both Bre Brooks and Ashara Spruill had 2 points.
“We’re going to play through Jamyia Lindsey. As she goes, we go,” Moseley explained. “Instead of everyone standing around and watching her like the first game, everyone chipped in. That was the one thing we focused on all week at practice.
“One person can’t win a game and we need a concerted effort from all of our players. And tonight everyone stepped up and did a great job.”
The Lady Raiders (1-1) will look to add another win to the column against non-conference Pine Forest High School (1-0) on Friday. It will be the team’s home opener, starting at 6 p.m.
