ROCKINGHAM — Two young defendants have recently been booked into the Richmond County Jail on attempted murder charges in separate cases after turning 18.

Jail records show Christopher Robert McCullough was admitted on July 31 and is being held on a $500,000 secured bond.

McCullough is accused of attempting to rob a male victim of $300 while threatening him with a 9mm handgun on Jan. 4, 2025.

The case was investigated by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Court records show McCullough was arrested the following day and charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a handgun by a minor.

A Jan. 6, 2025 release order states that McCullough was to be taken to a juvenile detention facility.

McCullough was indicted on all three charges Feb. 3, 2025.

His next court date is scheduled for April 10.

Jason Aveion Harris Jr. is accused in two shootings investigated by the Rockingham Police Department in February of 2025.

One warrant alleges that Harris conspired with Jamaal Roberts, D’Qualin Swinnie and another juvenile to “discharge multiple firearms” into a home on Cox Street in Rockingham on Feb. 7, 2025. Two people were reportedly injured.

Records show a warrant for Roberts’ arrest was issued April 16 and he was taken into custody on April 29 of 2025. Swinnie was arrested April 29, 2025 and Harris was arrested May 13, 2025.

Swinnie and Harris were both indicted Aug. 18, 2025 on the following charges: two counts of attempted first-degree murder; two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury; and one count of injury to personal property.

Records show Swinnie’s charges are still pending and his next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 8. Harris’ court date is slated for Aug. 10.

Harris is also charged in a Feb. 22, 2025 incident, accused of shooting into a vehicle on Shannon Drive that was occupied by two people. One of the occupants was injured, documents show. Roberts and the previously mentioned juvenile were also charged in that case.

Records show Harris was indicted May 19, 2025 in that case on the following charges: four counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied property with serious bodily injury; two counts of attempted first-degree murder; assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury; assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill; and injury to personal property.

Harris is scheduled to appear in court for that case also on Aug. 10.

Court records show Harris is being held on a $500,000 secured bond in the first case. However, his bond was revoked in the second case by Judge Alicia Flowers on March 4. In the order, Flowers stated that “not conditions of release are appropriate to ensure defendant will appear in court nor that the public is safe.”

Court records also show that Harris has the following pending charges in Moore County from 2023: two counts of accessory after the fact; felony possession of marijuana; obstructing justice; and possession of a handgun by a minor.

Roberts is currently serving a minimum of six years and eight months, with a maximum sentence of nine years, records show.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
