ROCKINGHAM — Even though students won’t report for classes until next week, Richmond Senior High School will have a busy athletic schedule during the final week of summer break.

Richmond’s boys’ soccer and volleyball programs each started their regular seasons last week. Joining them in the coming days will be the girls’ tennis and football programs.

Lady Raider volleyball set for 3-match week

After opening its season by splitting its first two non-conference matches last week, head coach Ashleigh Larsen and the Lady Raiders (1-1) will play three more non-conference matches this week.

Richmond will open its trio of matches on the road at Lee County High School Tuesday (6 p.m.) and also play at Montgomery Central High School Wednesday (6:30 p.m.).

Rounding out the week during the school’s open house for students, the Lady Raiders will host Purnell Swett High School at 6:30 p.m.

The junior varsity volleyball team (1-1) will follow the same schedule. The match at Lee County will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the other two matches will start at 5 p.m.

Raider soccer eyes first win

Playing just one of their two regularly scheduled matches last week, the Raider soccer team (0-1) and head coach Chris Larsen will get a pair of chances to break into the win column.

Starting on the road Monday in the team’s first away match, Richmond will face non-conference Porter Ridge High School. That will be followed by a home non-conference meeting with Central Academy of Technology and Arts Wednesday. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.

Richmond’s JV boys’ soccer team (1-0) will also play at Porter Ridge (5 p.m.) and host CATA (5:15 p.m.) the same days.

Lady Raider tennis opens new slate at home

The Richmond girls’ tennis team will become the school’s third program to open its regular season.

Hosting Montgomery Central, the Lady Raiders and head coach Jessica Covington will begin action Wednesday. Singles matches in the non-conference contest will start at 4 p.m.

The Richmond Observer will publish a season preview article later this week.
