THE WEEK AHEAD: 4 spring sports programs in action for Richmond

Baseball, softball, soccer all with 3 games; boys' tennis to debut Tuesday

ROCKINGHAM — Another busy slate of Richmond Senior High School spring sports is on the schedule this week.

Richmond’s baseball, softball and girls’ soccer programs will continue action, as the boys’ tennis team joins the rotation.

Raider baseball set for 3-game week, continue MSC play

The Raiders (3-1, 1-0 MSC) will play their first three-game week of the season, starting with a pair of Mid-South Conference games.

Richmond will host Jack Britt High School (1-3, 0-1 MSC) Tuesday and travel to Hoke County High School (1-2, 0-1 MSC) Friday. Both games are set for 7 p.m.

A Saturday matinee will end the week when Richmond hosts non-conference Weddington High School at 2:30 p.m.

The Richmond junior varsity baseball team (1-0, 1-0 MSC) will follow the same schedule and face Jack Britt and Hoke County at 4:30 p.m. The JV Raiders’ game against Weddington is scheduled for noon.

Lady Raider softball still searching for first win

With three more chances this week, the Lady Raiders (0-4) will try to break into the win column for the first time this season.

Richmond will play a two-game series with non-conference Montgomery Central High School (3-0), starting with a home game Monday and an away game Thursday. Both games are at 7 p.m.

The Lady Raiders will travel to non-conference South Stanly High School (4-0) Tuesday. That game is slated for 6 p.m.

Richmond’s JV softball team (3-1) will play just Montgomery Central this week. Following the same travel schedule as varsity, Monday’s game is set for 5 p.m. and Thursday is at 4:30 p.m.

Lady Raider soccer ready for another 3-match week

The Lady Raiders (2-2) will play twice on the road and once at home this week, all against non-conference teams.

Richmond will travel to Uwharrie Charter Academy (1-0) Monday, as well as Asheboro High School (2-1) Friday. Monday’s match will be played at the Zoo City Sportsplex (6 p.m.) and the game at Asheboro will be at 7 p.m.

Wednesday will be the Lady Raiders’ lone home match of the week against Central Academy of Technology and Arts (2-2). The varsity-only match will start at 6 p.m.

The JV Lady Raiders (1-1) won’t play until Friday at Asheboro, which is set for 5:30 p.m.

Raider tennis opens season with 2 matches

The Raider tennis team and head coach Jessica Covington will open the new season this week with non-conference matches on Tuesday and Thursday.

Richmond will host Scotland High School Tuesday, followed by an away match at Montgomery Central Thursday. Singles action will start at 4 p.m. both days.

Sports editor’s note: The Richmond boys’ and girls’ track and field teams don’t compete this week, and the boys’ golf team is scheduled to open its season next week.
