ROCKINGHAM — Despite a four-day week because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, Richmond Senior High School’s winter sports programs have a packed schedule.
For the first time since the turn of the new year, all six sports will be in action this week, mostly against Mid-South Conference opponents.
Basketball teams hosting 2 MSC games
The Raiders (11-5, 1-1 MSC) and Lady Raiders (8-6, 2-0 MSC) continue MSC play this week with two varsity basketball home games.
First will be a meeting with Hoke County High School Tuesday, followed by a visit from Overhills High School Friday. Both girls’ games will start at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ games at 7:30 p.m.
The JV Lady Raiders (6-3, 1-0 MSC) and JV Raiders (2-6, 1-1 MSC) will play both of their games on the road at Hoke County (Tuesday) and Overhills (Friday). Game times are 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. both nights.
Wrestling returns to MSC action after successful weekend
Richmond’s wrestling program performed well over the weekend in a team invitational and will look to keep things going in the right direction this week with another MSC dual.
The Raiders (13-20, 1-2 MSC) will head to Pine Forest High School Wednesday and start at 5 p.m. Hoke County High School will also compete.
Bowling, swimming teams back to competition after off week
The Richmond boys’ and girls’ bowling and swimming teams each had last week off but return this week.
There will be two bowling meets for the Lady Raiders (4-0) and Raiders (2-2) this week, starting Tuesday with matches against Lee County and West Johnston high schools at the Sandhills Bowling Center.
That will be followed by another conference meet Thursday at Laurinburg Lanes. Richmond’s teams will face Pinecrest and Scotland high schools. Both meets will start at 4 p.m.
In swimming action, the Raiders and Lady Raiders will return to the pool at the Leach Aquatic Center in Raeford to compete against the five other MSC programs. The final regular-season meet of the season will start at 6 p.m.
Indoor track and field teams continue postseason prep
With the MSC championship meet in the books for the Raider and Lady Raider indoor track and field teams, Richmond will shift its focus toward preparing for the postseason.
To do that, the teams will compete in an outdoor meet at Union Pines High School Saturday. Events are slated to begin at 9 a.m.
