ROCKINGHAM — For the first time this school year, all of Richmond Senior High School’s winter sports programs will be in action this week.
Basketball, girls’ indoor track and field, swimming and wrestling will continue their seasons, while the bowling and boys’ indoor track and field programs will compete for the first time.
Basketball teams to play 3 games this week
The Raiders (2-0) and Lady Raiders (1-1) will follow the same schedule this week with a trio of non-conference games.
Both teams will travel to Scotland High School Tuesday for a non-conference meeting, and return home Friday for another game against the Fighting Scots. The girls’ games are set for 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ games at 7:30 p.m.
The final game of the week for the Raiders and Lady Raiders will be a Saturday matinee at home against Hillside High School. The Lady Raiders will start at 12:30 p.m., followed by the Raiders at 2 p.m.
In junior varsity action, the JV Raiders (1-0) and the JV Lady Raiders (1-2) will host Scotland Tuesday and travel to Laurinburg Friday. Games will start at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. both nights.
The JV teams will also host Hillside Saturday and play in the auxiliary gym at 12:30 and 2 p.m.
Indoor track and field teams set for 2 meets
Having not competed since before the Thanksgiving break, Richmond’s girls’ indoor track and field team will continue its season this week. The boys’ indoor track and field team will compete for the first time.
In the first of two meets this week at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, the Raiders and Lady Raiders will compete Monday at 4:30 p.m. That will be followed by another meet Saturday at 10 a.m.
Wrestling program continues non-conference slate
Another two-event week is on the schedule for the Richmond wrestling program. The team will travel to Scotland for a non-conference dual Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Wrestling again on Saturday, the team will compete in a dual tournament at Lumberton High School. Matches will begin at 9 a.m.

Swimming teams return to action
Also off since before the Thanksgiving holiday, the Richmond boys’ and girls’ swimming teams will return to the pool this week.
For what will be their second Mid-South Conference meet of the season, the Raiders and Lady Raiders will face the other MSC programs Thursday at 6 p.m. The meet will be held at the James A. Leach Aquatic Center in Raeford.
Bowling teams to compete in season opener
In addition to the boys’ indoor track and field team starting its season this week, the Richmond boys’ and girls’ bowling teams will also hit the lanes for the first time this season.
As it’s not an officially sanctioned sport by the NCHSAA, the bowling program will compete against many of the same teams from the past four years.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders will face Southern Lee and Union Pines high schools Thursday, starting at 4 p.m. The matches will be held at the Sandhills Bowling Center in Southern Pines.
