ROCKINGHAM — Some of Richmond Senior High School’s winter sports teams return to play this week, while others will get the week off.

Basketball at all levels will return for the Raiders and Lady Raiders, while programs like bowling and swimming will take a break. This week will also feature one conference championship meet.

Basketball teams open Mid-South Conference schedule

The Richmond boys’ and girls’ basketball programs will start MSC action this week with games against Pine Forest and Jack Britt high schools.

Following the two winter break tournaments and a non-conference game two Saturdays ago, the Lady Raiders are 6-6 and the Raiders are 9-4.

Richmond’s teams will host Pine Forest Tuesday and travel to Jack Britt Friday. Both girls’ games will start at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.

The junior varsity boys’ basketball team (1-5) will host Pine Forest at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday as part of a tripleheader. The JV Raiders will also host Jack Britt Friday at 6 p.m.

The JV girls’ basketball team (4-3) will only host Jack Britt Friday at 5 p.m.

Following its two-game conference schedule this week, the Raider varsity basketball team will play Westover High School Saturday as part of Terry Sanford High School’s MLK tournament.

Wrestling returns home for conference tri-meet

Becoming the first winter sports team to open MSC play last week, the Raider wrestling team will host a match on its home mats for the first time since early December.

Richmond (10-16, 1-1 MSC) will welcome in Hoke County and Overhills high schools for a conference tri-meet Wednesday. The first match will start at 5 p.m.

Indoor track and field teams ready for MSC championship

After back-to-back weekends finding success in Moore County, the Richmond boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams will compete for individual and team conference titles this week.

The Raiders and Lady Raiders will face competitors from the MSC’s other five schools in the MSC championship meet. It’s scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Friday at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.

Bowling, swimming off until next week

Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ bowling and swimming teams will not compete this week. Both programs will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 22.
