ROCKINGHAM — A full week of high school athletics looks to be in the clear following back-to-back weeks impacted by winter weather.

With the winter sports season reaching its final stretch of the regular season, several of Richmond Senior High School’s programs will be in action this week.

Girls’ bowling team set for conference championship

After a couple of postponements, the Lady Raider bowling team will get its chance to fight for a conference championship title Tuesday.

Ranked as the No. 1 seed, the Lady Raiders and head coach Ashleigh Larsen will compete in a team tournament and an individual tournament at the Sandhills Bowling Center.

The top three teams at the conference championship will qualify for states, and the same goes for the top 10 individual bowlers. The team tournament will begin at 2 p.m.

Senior nights planned for boys’ and girls’ basketball teams

The Richmond boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will try to get back to a regular routine this week with two Mid-South Conference games.

The Lady Raiders (10-8, 4-2 MSC) and Raiders (14-6, 4-2 MSC) will both travel to Overhills High School Tuesday.

That will be followed by senior night Friday at home against Pinecrest High School. The Lady Raiders will recognize their three seniors, and the Raiders will celebrate their four seniors, between games.

Tip-off times for both girls’ games is 6 p.m. with the boys’ games to start at 7:30 p.m.

In junior varsity action, the JV Lady Raiders (10-4, 5-0 MSC) and the JV Raiders (4-10, 2-4 MSC) will host Overhills Tuesday and travel to Pinecrest Friday. Games will start at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Wrestling regionals start for Raiders, Lady Raiders

Two Lady Raiders and seven Raiders are set to compete in the NCHSAA 7A West regional championship later this week.

Senior Brooklyn Windley (185-pounds) and sophomore Gabbi Geiger (120-pounds) will wrestle in the girls’ tournament Thursday at Southwest Guilford High School.

Sophomore Dylan Nunez (120-pounds), freshman Axel Nunez (126-pounds), junior Hayden Smith (150-pounds), junior Konner Gardner (170-pounds), and seniors Jason Gainey (190-pounds), Jordan Hamilton (215-pounds) and Esaias Brunson (285-pounds) will travel to A.L. Brown High School Friday for the first night of regionals.
