THE WEEK AHEAD: Busy schedule for RSHS before spring break

All 6 programs in MSC action

Posted

ROCKINGHAM — The four days leading into spring break will be jam-packed with Richmond Senior High School spring sports action.

All six of the school’s programs will be in competition, and for the first time this season, every opponent will be a Mid-South Conference team.

Baseball poised for two-game set Jack Britt

Coming off back-to-back five-inning no-hitters as part of a two-game sweep last week, the Raider baseball team (8-3, 6-1 MSC) will look to carry that dominance over into a pivotal series with Jack Britt High School (6-6, 3-4 MSC).

Second-place Richmond will travel to third-place Jack Britt Tuesday for the second game of the three-game season series with the Buccaneers. That’ll be followed by Thursday’s home game. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. both nights.

The Richmond junior varsity baseball team (5-3, 5-2 MSC) will play its two games against Jack Britt Tuesday (away) and Thursday (home) at 4:30 p.m.

Softball with three games ahead of break

After earning its first conference win Friday, the Lady Raider softball team (3-7, 1-1 MSC) will play three games this week. Monday’s contest will be at non-conference rival Scotland High School (5-6) at 6 p.m.

Richmond will then play a two-game set with Jack Britt (1-11, 1-1 MSC) Tuesday (home) and Thursday (away). Those matchups will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The JV Lady Raiders (7-1, 2-0 MSC), who are on a six-game winning streak, will only play against Jack Britt Tuesday and Thursday. The games will be at the same locations as the varsity games and start at 5 p.m.

Girls’ soccer looking for first conference win

With two matches this week, the Lady Raider soccer team (3-6-2, 0-2-1 MSC) will try to break into the conference win column.

Richmond will close its first round of regular season conference play at home with Overhills High School (4-2-3, 1-1-1 MSC) Tuesday and travel to first-place Pinecrest High School (9-0-2, 3-0 MSC) Thursday. Both varsity matches are set for 7 p.m.

The JV Lady Raider soccer team (5-2, 2-1 MSC) will host Overhills Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. and play at Pinecrest Thursday (5 p.m.).

Boys’ tennis continues conference action

The Raider tennis team (2-3, 1-2 MSC) is scheduled to play a trio of Mid-South Conference matches this week.

Up first will be the Raiders’ second match of the season against Pinecrest, which will be Monday at home.

That will be followed by a pair of matches against Pine Forest High School. Richmond will host the Trojans Tuesday and travel to Pine Forest Wednesday for a make-up match from a rain out a couple of weeks ago. All three matches will start at 4 p.m.

Boys’ golf, track and field teams to compete once

Richmond’s other two spring sports programs — boys’ golf and co-ed track and field — will each compete one time this week.

The Raider golf team, which is second in the MSC standings, will play its final nine-hole match of the season before starting 18-hole matches.

Richmond will tee off at Kings Grant Golf and Country Club starting Monday at 3 p.m.

The boys’ and girls’ track and field teams will return to action Thursday at Overhills for an MSC meet. Events will start at 4 p.m.

Results of this weekend’s invitational at Cummings High School will be published Monday.
