ROCKINGHAM — With the first nine-week grading period of the fall semester in the books, the weekly schedule of athletic events at Richmond Senior High School is starting to slow down a bit.
Now with just four of its six fall sports programs still competing, Richmond’s athletic schedule will be a little leaner until winter sports fully take off later this semester.
Webb ready for 7A West golf regionals
Sophomore Talley Webb is the final Lady Raider golfer left this season and she’ll look to keep her campaign going Monday at the NCHSAA 7A West regional tournament.
Teeing off at 8:40 a.m. at Longleaf Golf and Family Club on Hole No. 10, Webb is the top seed in her group. She’ll play alongside Anne Etter (Chapel Hill), Maggie Kirkpatrick (Page) and Haidyn Woods (Purnell Swett).
Qualifying for regionals for the second straight season, Webb’s goal this year is to qualify for the 7A state championship tournament later this month.
Boys’ soccer enters final stretch of regular season
With just two weeks left in its regular season, the Richmond boys’ soccer team will play a pair of Mid-South Conference matches this week.
The Raiders (6-10-2, 2-4-1 MSC) will start on the road Monday at Hoke County High School (11-4-4, 5-2 MSC), followed by a home match against Overhills High School (3-10-1, 1-5-1 MSC) Wednesday.
The home match against the Jaguars will also be senior night for the team’s nine senior players. Both matches will start at 7 p.m.
Richmond’s junior varsity boys’ soccer team (10-6-1, 4-2-1 MSC) will play at Hoke County and host Overhills the same days as varsity. Those matches will begin at 5:15 p.m.
Football prepares for Overhills, last road game
One more regular-season road trip is set for the Richmond football team (6-2, 3-0 MSC) Friday, as the Raiders will take on Overhills (3-5, 1-2 MSC).
Richmond will look to keep its conference record perfect, and extend its winning streak to six games, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
The JV football team (6-1, 3-0 MSC) hosts the JV Jaguars Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Cross country regionals set for Saturday
Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will compete in the 7A Central regional championship meet Saturday.
Several runners for the Raiders and Lady Raiders will run the 3-mile race at the WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary.
Note: Richmond’s girls’ tennis and volleyball teams both completed their respective seasons, including the playoffs, last week.
