ROCKINGHAM — The impact of a weekend winter storm has pushed much of Richmond Senior High School’s athletic events until later in the week.

With classes being moved to remote learning days Monday and Tuesday, Richmond’s winter sports teams will try to get caught up Wednesday through Friday.

Basketball teams on the road twice

The Raiders and Lady Raiders will now play on the road back-to-back nights against two Mid-South Conference opponents.

Both teams will close out the first round of conference play at Pinecrest High School Thursday, then begin the second round of regular-season action at Pine Forest High School Friday.

The Lady Raiders (9-7, 3-1 MSC) are currently in second place in the standings as the result of their first conference loss last Friday to Overhills High School. Each of the team’s games this week is set for a 6 p.m. start.

The Raiders (13-5, 3-1 MSC) are in first place in the standings after defeating Overhills last Friday. Both of their games will start at 7:30 p.m.

The junior varsity basketball teams will host Pinecrest Wednesday (5 p.m. and 6 p.m.) and only the JV boys’ team will travel to Pine Forest Friday (4:30 p.m.)

Bowling senior night scheduled

With the regular season in the books, the Richmond boys’ and girls’ bowling teams will prepare for next week’s conference championship meet with a pair of exhibition matches Thursday.

Thursday’s event at the Sandhills Bowling Center is also senior night, as Richmond will recognize its six seniors. That ceremony will start at 3:30 p.m. and bowling will begin at 4 p.m.

Wrestling team to face Pinecrest

The Raider wrestling team (13-21, 1-3 MSC) has one conference meet this week. Richmond will travel to Pinecrest Wednesday and face the Patriots for the first time this season.

Individual matches will start at 5 p.m.

Sports editor’s note: Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams will not compete this week. Also, the boys’ and girls’ swimming teams’ season ended last week.
