ROCKINGHAM — Classes and athletics resume to a regular schedule this week for Richmond Senior High School.

For the first time this winter sports season, all six of Richmond’s programs will be in action.

Basketball teams return to conference play

The Richmond boys’ and girls’ basketball teams had success in their respective holiday tournaments and will return to Sandhills Athletic Conference play.

The Lady Raiders (9-4, 3-0 SAC), winners of eight of their last nine games, and the Raiders (6-7, 1-2 SAC), who have won five straight games, will both play Union Pines and Lee County high schools.

Tuesday’s games will be at home against Union Pines, followed by a road trip to Lee County Friday. Games will start at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. both nights.

In junior varsity action, the JV Lady Raiders and JV Raiders will travel to Union Pines Tuesday and start at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively. Only the JV Raiders will travel to Lee County Friday and play at 4:30 p.m.

Swimming, bowling continue SAC meets

After nearly a month away from the pool and alley, Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ swimming and bowling teams are getting back to competition this week.

Swimmers for the Raiders and Lady Raiders have their fourth SAC meet of the season at St. Andrews University Wednesday. The first event of the night will get underway at 6 p.m.

The Lady Raider (4-2) and Raider (2-4) bowling teams will roll Thursday at Laurinburg Lanes. They’ll face Pinecrest and Union Pines high schools and start at 4 p.m.

Wrestling set for one conference meet

Looking to get back into a groove similar to the one it was in ahead of winter break, the Richmond wrestling team will meet a couple of conference opponents Wednesday.

Traveling to Southern Lee High School, the Raiders (6-8, 1-1 SAC) will compete in an SAC tri-match. Opening weight classes will start at 5 p.m.

Indoor track headed to Winston-Salem for opener

A delayed start to the season will finally get underway for some members of the Richmond boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams this week.

Richmond will travel to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem for the JDL Invitational Saturday. It is an invite-only event.
