Raiders host Jack Britt Friday for homecoming

ROCKINGHAM — It’s homecoming week at Richmond Senior High School and a busy schedule of athletics is set to add to the excitement.

All six of Richmond’s fall sports teams will compete this week, many playing more than once, culminating in the football team’s homecoming game Friday.

Volleyball to close regular season, hold senior night

Currently fourth in the Mid-South Conference standings, the Lady Raider volleyball team (11-7, 4-4 MSC) will look to make a push toward the top in the final week of the regular season.

Richmond will be on a redemption tour, facing fifth-place Overhills High School (4-10, 2-6 MSC) and second-place Pinecrest High School (10-11, 6-2 MSC), two teams the Lady Raiders have lost to this season.

Hoping to ride the wave of momentum created by beating conference leader Hoke County High School, Richmond will travel to Overhills Tuesday and host Pinecrest Thursday. The regular-season finale will also be senior night for the team’s three senior players. Both matches will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The junior varsity volleyball team (9-9, 4-4 MSC) will wrap up its season this week at Overhills and back home against Pinecrest. Those matches will start at 5 p.m.

Boys’ soccer closes first round of MSC play

Playing just one match last week, the Richmond boys’ soccer team (5-7-2, 1-1-1 MSC) will look to get back into a rhythm with a pair of home matches against the conference’s top two teams.

Up first will be a contest against first-place Pinecrest High School (4-3-1, 3-0 MSC) Monday. The fourth-place Raiders will then host second-place Hoke County High School (8-3-3, 2-1 MSC) Thursday, a makeup date from last week’s rainout.

Each of Richmond’s varsity matches will begin at 7 p.m.

The Richmond junior varsity soccer team (7-5-1, 1-1-1 MSC) will host Pinecrest and Hoke County the same days as the varsity team. Play will start at 5:15 for both JV matches.

Pre-regionals set for girls’ tennis team

New this season, the Richmond girls’ tennis team (5-6, 4-4 MSC) will compete in a pre-regionals tournament this week, followed by its final two regular-season matches.

The Lady Raiders’ top-six players will travel to Davie County High School Monday to try and qualify for the regional tournament later this month. Singles and doubles action will start at 1 p.m.

Richmond will return to its regular two-match schedule Tuesday at Overhills and Thursday on its home court against Pinecrest. Those two matches will begin with singles at 4 p.m.

Cross country returns to Pinecrest for final MSC meet

Joining the volleyball team as the first two to conclude its regular season schedule, the Richmond cross country program will compete once more this week.

The Raiders and Lady Raiders will travel to Pinecrest Thursday for a three-team MSC meet against the host teams and Overhills.

Starting at 4 p.m. will be the boys’ race, followed by the girls’ three-miler at 4:30 p.m.

Girls’ golf team playing at Pinehurst, Foxfire

Unable to play last week due to a rainout, the Lady Raider golf team will play two 18-hole matches in a three-day span. It will be the first full matches of the season.

The first match will be played Tuesday at Pinehurst No. 6, the second time the MSC teams will play there this season. That will be followed by Richmond’s lone home match of the fall at Foxfire Resort Wednesday.

The Lady Raiders and other MSC golfers will tee off at 2 p.m. for both matches.

Homecoming Friday features matchup with Jack Britt

After squashing their opponent’s homecoming celebration last Friday, the Raiders hope to give their home crowd a victory during their homecoming game.

Richmond (4-2, 1-0 MSC) will look to extend its winning streak to four games when it hosts Jack Britt High School (3-3, 0-1 MSC) Friday. Kickoff between the two storied programs is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Raider Stadium.

The Richmond JV football team (4-1, 1-0 MSC) will hit the road for the second straight week and play at Jack Britt Thursday. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m.
