THE WEEK AHEAD: Most RSHS contests away this week

Baseball, softball, girls soccer all home Friday

ROCKINGHAM — Most of Richmond Senior High School’s athletic events this week will take place away from campus.

For the second straight week, all six of the school’s spring sports teams will be in action. All but one event will be against Mid-South Conference opponents.

Friday will be the busiest day on campus as the varsity and junior varsity baseball, softball and girls’ soccer teams will all play at home.

Raider baseball set for series with Pine Forest

With a third of their conference schedule already played, the Raiders (6-3, 4-1 MSC) will begin a stretch of two-game series as the conference’s second-place team.

Up first will be a series with Pine Forest High School (0-8, 0-5 MSC), which is in last place. Game one will be in Fayetteville Tuesday, followed by game two Friday at Raider Field. First pitch is at 7 p.m. both days.

The JV Raiders (3-3, 3-2) will follow the same schedule and play at Pine Forest Tuesday (4:30 p.m.) and at home against the JV Trojans Friday (4:30 p.m.).

Lady Raider softball to begin conference action

Playing just one game last week, the Richmond softball team will get two chances to start MSC play with wins.

The Lady Raiders (2-6) also have a two-game series with Pine Forest this week. They’ll travel to Pine Forest (2-7) Tuesday and host the Lady Trojans Friday. Both games are at 6:30 p.m.

In JV softball action, the JV Lady Raiders (5-1) start conference play as well. They’ll travel Tuesday (5 p.m.) and be home Friday (4:30 p.m.) for two games against Pine Forest.

Lady Raider soccer with two MSC matches

Continuing the burst of contests against MSC opponents this week, the Richmond girls’ soccer team will have two MSC matches.

Looking to get their first conference win, the Lady Raiders (3-5-1, 0-1 MSC) will play at Jack Britt High School (2-3, 0-1 MSC) Tuesday and return home Friday to host Hoke County High School (5-2-2, 1-1 MSC). The varsity matches will begin at 7 p.m.

The JV Lady Raiders (4-1, 1-0 MSC) will travel to Jack Britt Tuesday (5 p.m.) and host Hoke County Friday (5:15 p.m.).

Raider tennis to play Union Pines, Overhills

The only team to face a non-conference opponent this week will be the Richmond boys’ tennis team.

The Raiders (1-2, 0-2 MSC) will start with a home non-conference match Tuesday against Union Pines High School. That will be followed with a road match against MSC opponent Overhills High School Wednesday.

Both matches will begin with singles play at 4 p.m.

Raider golf set ready for nine holes at Anderson Creek

With its first match of the season in the books, the Richmond boys’ golf team will compete in another MSC match Monday.

This week golfers will play nine holes at Anderson Creek Golf Club, hosted by Overhills. The Raiders, who were second in last week’s opener, will tee off beginning at 3 p.m.

Track and field teams to face MSC teams for first time

After a couple of early-season cancellations, the first MSC track and field meet will be held Wednesday.

Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ teams will travel to Pinecrest High School to face other conference opponents.

The first events will get started at 4:30 p.m.
