ROCKINGHAM — All of the local high school sports action this week will be against Mid-South Conference opponents.

Richmond Senior High School’s six fall sports teams will all compete in the upcoming days, with some matches potentially affected by inclement weather early in the week.

Volleyball has 2 big matches this week

Head coach Ashleigh Larsen said Richmond’s two matches this week could have a “big” impact on the volleyball team’s placement in the conference standings.

Richmond (10-6, 3-3 MSC) is currently in third place in the standings and will open at fourth-place Jack Britt High School (7-8, 3-3 MSC) Tuesday. That will be followed by a home match Thursday against first-place Hoke County High School (16-2, 6-0 MSC).

Both matches will begin at 6:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the junior varsity matches.

The JV Lady Raiders (8-8, 3-3 MSC) also play at Jack Britt and home against Hoke County. Those matches will begin at 5 p.m.

Soccer continues first round of MSC slate

After splitting its first two conference matches of the season last week, the Raiders will have two more chances to add to the win column.

Up first, Richmond (5-7-1, 1-1 MSC) will play at Hoke County (8-2-3, 2-0 MSC) Monday. Another road match Wednesday will see the Raiders travel to Overhills High School (2-7, 0-2 MSC). Both contests will start at 7 p.m.

The JV boys’ soccer team (7-5, 1-1 MSC) plays the same schedule and will start at 5 p.m. both times.

Tennis to play one home, one away

As it nears the final stretch of its regular season, the Lady Raider tennis team (2-6, 1-4 MSC) will play two matches this week.

Also playing Jack Britt and Hoke County, the first match will be away against the Lady Buccaneers Monday. Richmond will return home Wednesday to host the Lady Bucks.

Monday and Wednesday’s matches will open with singles play at 4 p.m.

Cross country teams to host senior day

The first senior day of the fall sports seasons will take place Wednesday at Hinson Lake.

Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will recognize the program’s seniors prior to an MSC meet against Pine Forest and Overhills.

The first race will go off at 4 p.m., followed by the second race at 4:30 p.m.

Lone home match for golf team postponed

The Richmond girls’ golf team was supposed to start the second half of its season Monday with its first 18-hole match of the fall.

But the MSC match at Foxfire Resort was postponed Sunday evening in anticipation of inclement weather. Head coach Kevin Wallace said there is no make up date at this time.

Football returns from bye to open MSC action

Coming off its bye week, the Richmond football team will start its five-game MSC schedule this week at Pine Forest High School.

The Raiders (3-2) will travel to face the Trojans (1-4) Friday at 7:30 p.m.

In JV action, Richmond will also travel to Pine Forest Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The game is being played in Fayetteville due to work being done on Richmond's track.

The Richmond Observer will publish a preview later in the week.
