ROCKINGHAM — Most of this week’s sporting events for Richmond Senior High School will take place on the road.
Monday will mark the second week this fall season that all six of Richmond’s programs will be in action. Teams will play a combination of non-conference and Mid-South Conference opponents.
Volleyball eyes continued perfect start in MSC play
With two wins in the bag to start MSC action, the Lady Raiders (8-3, 2-0 SAC) will have two more opportunities to stay undefeated against conference teams.
One of Richmond’s biggest 7A competitors this season will be Hoke County High School (11-2, 2-0 MSC). The Lady Raiders were swept by the Lady Bucks last season, and the two teams are joined by Pinecrest High School as the lone remaining undefeated teams in conference.
Richmond will travel to Hoke County Tuesday and return home to play Overhills High School (2-6, 0-2 MSC) Thursday. Both matches will start at 6:30 p.m.
The junior varsity volleyball team (5-6, 1-1 MSC) also plays at Hoke County and home against Overhills. Those matches will begin at 5 p.m.
Boys’ soccer away to close non-conference slate
With a week still separating the Richmond Raiders from beginning MSC action, the soccer team will try to tack on two non-conference wins on the road this week.
Up first for the Raiders (2-6-1) will be a road trip to Purnell Swett High School (6-2-1) Monday at 7 p.m., followed by another away match Wednesday at Uwharrie Charter Academy (1-1) at 6 p.m.
The JV boys’ soccer team (5-4) will only play at Purnell Swett Monday at 5 p.m. Uwharrie Charter doesn’t have a JV team.
Tennis set for two MSC matches
Going 1-1 to start MSC action last week, the Lady Raider tennis team (2-4, 1-1 MSC) will play two more conference matches this week.
Monday’s contest will be at home against Hoke County, followed by an away match Wednesday at Overhills. Singles will start at 4 p.m. both days, followed by doubles matches.
Cross country teams ready for third meet
Running twice last week, the Richmond boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will compete in one 3-mile race this week.
Both squads will travel to Overhills Wednesday and run against the host school as well as Hoke County. Races will begin at 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The Richmond Observer will publish the results from last Thursday’s home non-conference meet soon.
Girls’ golf headed to new course
Making its way to the course for the second time this season, the Lady Raider golf team will play a new course as part of the new MSC lineup.
Richmond will compete against the other MSC teams Monday at Anderson Creek Golf Club for a nine-hole match. Golfers will begin their shotgun start at 3 p.m.
Football to close non-conference schedule at home
For a final time this season, the Richmond football team will meet with a non-conference opponent on the gridiron Friday.
Getting back to 2-2 following Week 4’s blowout win over Northwest Guilford, the Raiders will host a more formidable opponent in West Forsyth High School (3-1). Kickoff for Friday’s non-conference finale is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The JV Raiders will make the trip to play the JV Titans Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
