ROCKINGHAM — With the first week of the 2025-26 school year in the books, the majority of student-athletes at Richmond Senior High School will continue non-conference play this week.
Already entering the fourth week of the regular season for the Richmond boys’ soccer and volleyball teams, the football and girls’ tennis programs will enter their third week of play.
Joining the mix will be the Raider and Lady Raider cross country teams, which will start their season with a Mid-South Conference meet.
Volleyball set to close non-conference schedule
The Lady Raider volleyball team (5-2) will play its final two non-conference matches this week as part of nine straight contests to start the season.
Richmond will try to get back in the win column Tuesday at home against Uwharrie Charter Academy (8-3), the team that ended the Lady Raiders’ five-match winning streak last week.
Thursday will see Richmond travel east to rival Scotland High School and go for the non-conference sweep of the Lady Scots (2-3). Both matches are set for 6:30 p.m.
In junior varsity action, the JV Lady Raiders (3-4) will also host Uwharrie Charter and travel to Scotland. Those matches will start at 5 p.m.
Boys’ soccer has one match this week
Following a three-match week last week, the Raiders (1-4-1) will only have one non-conference match this week.

The JV Raiders (4-2) will also welcome Cape Fear Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.
Girls’ tennis team to face one more non-conference opponent
After breaking into the win column against Scotland last week, the Lady Raider tennis team will face a familiar opponent at home Thursday.
Richmond will play Pinecrest High School, a fellow MSC opponent, but it will be ruled as a non-conference match. Singles matches will start at 4 p.m.
Cross country teams open season at Jack Britt
Competing in a conference-only schedule, the Richmond boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will become the school’s fifth program to start competitive action this school year.
Wednesday’s MSC meet will be hosted by Jack Britt and also feature fellow conference opponent Overhills High School. The boys’ race will start at 4 p.m., followed by the girls’ race at 4:30 p.m.

The team that ended the Raiders’ playoff run last season will revisit Raider Stadium this Friday.
Fresh off its 15-point win over rival Scotland High School, Richmond (1-1) will welcome Rolesville High School (0-2) for a Week 3 non-conference showdown.
In last season’s third round playoff game, the Raiders fell to the Rams 44-6. A shot at redemption is slated for Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The Richmond Observer will publish a preview article later in the week.
The Richmond junior varsity football team (2-0) will have a non-conference bye week and return to action Sept. 11 at home against Northwest Guilford High School.
