ROCKINGHAM — A couple more senior night celebrations are on the schedule this week for Richmond Senior High School’s falls sports.

Most programs will continue Sandhills Athletic Conference regular season action, with one team also beginning its conference tournament.

Light week for volleyball, senior night planned

An extended break for the Richmond volleyball team (9-10, 6-5 SAC) will culminate in senior night on Thursday, which is also its final regular-season match.

Eight seniors are on this year’s roster, who hope to help the fourth-place Lady Raiders defeat third-place Scotland (12-6, 7-3 SAC). Prior to the start of the match (6 p.m.), those seniors will be celebrated.

In junior varsity action, the JV Lady Raiders (11-8, 5-6 SAC) will host Scotland on Thursday for their final match of the fall. First serve is at 5 p.m.

Second to last full week of regular season for soccer

With five matches left on the schedule, the fifth-place Raider soccer team (7-7-1, 3-4-1 SAC) will play two this week against SAC opponents.

Up first will be a home game on Monday against sixth-place Union Pines (4-11, 2-6 SAC), followed by a road match at conference leader Lee County (12-4, 7-1 SAC) on Wednesday. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.

The JV Raiders (6-3-4, 3-2-2 SAC) will follow the same schedule and start at 5 p.m.

Tennis team prepared for SAC tournament

The Lady Raider tennis team (5-6, 5-6 SAC) will be busy this week, starting Monday with its final regular-season match at home against Lee County. That match will begin at 4 p.m.

After the final seedings are determined, Richmond will compete in the SAC tournament at Pinecrest on Thursday. The Lady Raiders’ opponent is to be determined, but singles action will start at 1 p.m.

Golf returns after off week

Richmond’s three golfers spent last week getting plenty of practice time on the course in preparation for their first twp 18-hole matches of the season.

The Lady Raiders will face the five other SAC teams at Whispering Pines on Monday, and repeat that again on Wednesday at Pinehurst No. 6. The shotgun starts will begin at 2 p.m.

Cross country teams set for final regular-season race

One more regular-season meet awaits the Raider and Lady Raider cross country teams. It will be held at Pinecrest on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. start for the first race.

Note: Co-head coach Ashleigh Buie said results from last Tuesday’s race at Hinson Lake will be made available soon. The RO will publish a separate article.

Football to host final home game, recognize seniors

The Raider football team (3-5, 3-1 SAC) will try to extend its streak to three consecutive wins on Friday against Lee County (4-3, 1-2 SAC).

It will also be senior night, which will recognize the team’s 22 seniors ahead of kickoff, which is set for 7:30 p.m. Seniors on the cheerleading team and members of the band and color guard will also be announced.

The JV football team (2-5, 2-2 SAC) will play at Lee County on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
