ROCKINGHAM - After a successful “Yoga by the Creek” event the Women Build committee is on to their next fund raising effort which is this Tuesday (June 19th) night’s “Painting for Habitat for Humanity with Susan” at the Arts Council in downtown Rockingham, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. If you have been to one of Susan Perkin’s classes you know that all materials are provided and each person in the class paints the same picture on canvas while Susan directs with step by step instructions.
The subject of the night is chosen by the group having the event - the Women Build group chose a beautiful beach scene. The cost will be $40.00 per person with a portion of the cost being donated to the “Women Build” house.
Next on the calendar of events will be a share night at Smithfield’s in Rockingham on Monday, June 25th from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., with a portion of those sales going to the Women Build. Please come out and buy your dinner that night (to dine in or take home) to support the build.
Saturday, August 18th will be the much anticipated “Womanless Pageant” at Liberty Place in Rockingham. The categories upon which the contestants will be judged are talent, formal wear and the ever popular “question and answer” portion. This is a chance to show wit and intellect - which I hope will be in abundance at this competition - under pressure. You won’t know unless you come to the pageant; seats will be limited so purchase your ticket early to be sure of a seat. There will be heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages provided along with the show.
Thursday, September 6th is the Captain D’s share night where again, buying dinner for your family gets some funds donated to the “Women Build” house. There are some other events in the planning stages also so check with the Richmond County Habitat Facebook page or call Christian Liles, committee chair at (910) 206-3581 for further details.
Anyone who is interested in participating in the Women Build can come to the Rockingham ReStore (business hours are 10 – 6/T-F and 10-5 on Saturdays) to complete a waiver and get further information about the build which is scheduled to start Tuesday, September 4th, 2018. As always, the family chosen for this house is performing 300 hours of “sweat equity” either at the build site or in the ReStore and will be paying for the house with a 0% interest mortgage.
