HAMLET — The lingering effects of snowfall earlier this week will have local students physically out of classrooms Friday.
Richmond County Schools announced late Thursday afternoon that all students within the district will have their third consecutive remote learning day.
Cameron Whitley, the district’s Executive Director of Communications, cited the remote day was “due to the ice remaining on secondary roads across the district.”
For RCS staff, Friday will be an optional workday with a two-hour delay.
Richmond Community College will be open and classes will resume for all students, including RCS students who attend during the school day.
Friday will also be the third consecutive day that Richmond Senior High School’s athletic schedule will be impacted, athletic director James Johnson confirmed.
The junior varsity boys’ basketball game, along with the varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball games originally scheduled for Friday against Southern Lee, have been rescheduled for Feb. 10.
Richmond’s indoor track and field team still plans to compete in Winston-Salem Saturday, while the wrestling team’s Sandhills Athletic Conference championship meet Saturday at Union Pines High School is still “up in the air,” Johnson said.
Earlier this week, Richmond’s swimming and bowling programs had meets either rescheduled or canceled because of the weather and road conditions.
