Too Much Sylvia Plaza Jam Performance in Rockingham rescheduled for August due to predicted rain

ROCKINGHAM — Too Much Sylvia will be taking the stage for Plaza Jam — just not when originally scheduled.

The award-winning beach music band was supposed to perform for the second installment of Rockingham’s summer concert series for the 2025 season. However, the threat of bad weather is dampening the plan.

City Events Coordinator Kim Williams announced early Wednesday afternoon that the concert — initially slated for Thursday, June 5 at Cole Plaza — has been postponed and rescheduled for Aug. 21, which is also a Thursday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting rain to begin in the pre-dawn hours, with showers and possible thunderstorms throughout the day and evening. As much as two inches of rain could fall throughout the day.

Too Much Sylvia performed in the series last year for the first time since 2019.

In addition to original songs, like 2019’s “We Ain’t Leavin’ Carolina,” the four-piece band’s set list features other beach, R&B, country and classic rock covers and last year’s show included medley tributes to Earth, Wind and Fire, the Bee Gees and ZZ Top.

The 2025 season kicked off in May with the Entertainers. Other bands on the schedule for this year are:

  • July 3 - The Tones
  • Aug. 7 - Chocolate Chip and Company
  • Sept. 4 - The Tams
  • Oct. 2 - The Embers

All concerts are free and open to the public and held from 6:30-8:30 on the first Thursday of each month from May-October. Food trucks will be set up in the parking lot of Leath Memorial Library, and smoking is prohibited on the lawn.
