ROCKINGHAM - Richmond County opened its doors to Discovery Place Kids in Rockingham on February 23, 2013. The Museum opened with a weekend long community celebration. On its opening day, as noted in The Supporter newsletter, “more than 2,200 children and caregivers participated in activities and events, including meeting Can Can, the Museum’s mascot, for the first time.”
Since that time, Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham has developed and hosted many more community events.
The Supporter lists events such as Countdown to Kindergarten, the Cardboard Challenge, and the’ I Can Be Anything’ fair. The Museum also hosts a 5k Run for the Ribbons, partnering with The Foundation of FirstHealth.
To celebrate its fifth birthday, Rockingham’s Discovery Place Kids will be hosting two separate events.
The first event will be held this Saturday, February 17th, from 9am - 5pm. Admission will be free. In addition to a dance party, there will be other activities throughout the day.
Katie Rohleder, Director of Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham, stated, “We are very excited about turning 5. We encourage everyone to come downtown and celebrate.”
The second event is a members-only event and will take place on the actual birthday of the museum, February 23rd, from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Members will enjoy birthday cake, participate in planned activities and gain free admission for up to four friends.
Rohleder stated, “It's not too late to join and enjoy the member's-only celebration.”
The Museum is appreciative of the support it has received from, “members, visitors, donors, community leaders, volunteers, staff, board members, and everyone in the region,” as stated in the newsletter.
