Track Enterprises not hosting NASCAR at Rockingham Speedway in '27

Posted

ROCKINGHAM — Although the Easter weekend remains open on the 2027 NASCAR schedule, it doesn’t look promising for a return to the Rock.

Track Enterprises, which has been the official promoter for NASCAR’s return to Rockingham Speedway the past two years, announced Friday that it will not host any NASCAR events in 2027.

The Rock hosted its first NASCAR races in more than a decade in 2025, with contests in both the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (then the Xfinity Series) and Craftsman Truck Series, as well as the ARCA Menards Series East.

Track Enterprises brought all three series back in 2026.

Both NASCAR events were held on Easter weekend, when the Cup Series doesn’t race.

"The response from the fans over the past two years has been nothing short of incredible," Track Enterprises President Bob Sargent said in a press release. "Bringing NASCAR back to Rockingham was a special opportunity, and the support we received from race fans, competitors, sponsors, local officials, and the entire community exceeded every expectation.”

“While we're disappointed that NASCAR won't be racing at Rockingham in 2027,” Sargent continued, “we remain optimistic about the future and look forward to exploring opportunities to bring racing back in the future."

In the press release, Track Enterprises thanked “the thousands of fans who made the return to Rockingham Speedway such a memorable success over the past two seasons.”

“The passion displayed throughout each Easter weekend, along with the support from competitors, teams, sponsors, volunteers, local businesses, and the Richmond County community, played a vital role in the event's success,” the release states.

Organizers also thanked the sponsors, including Black’s Tire and the North Carolina Education Lottery, and “NASCAR, Rockingham Speedway, the State of North Carolina, Richmond County, City of Rockingham, Richmond County Tourism, local government officials, emergency personnel, and the many partners whose dedication helped make the return of NASCAR racing to Rockingham possible.”

The track was purchased by the International Hot Rod Association at the very end of 2025.

However, that organization has seen a revolving door of leadership and the cancellation of the rest of its 2026 season in a variety of divisions — including its stock car division, which had been scheduled to hold a race at Rockingham later in the year.

The IHRA has been relatively quiet on social media over the past month, with no posts to its Facebook page since July 19. There has been no activity on the speedway’s Facebook page since April 16.
