ROCKINGHAM — Finishing the week with its second win in as many tries, the Richmond Senior High School junior varsity girls’ basketball defeated Union Pines High on Friday.

Three double-digit scorers for the JV Lady Raiders led to a convincing 62-19 victory over the JV Lady Vikings.

Freshman Quanna Bostic scored a game-high 24 points, and was accompanied by sophomores Yasmeen McLaughlin (15 points) and Jamia Crowder (13 points). McLaughlin’s 15 points were a season-high.

“I’m proud of the way the girls have played this week,” head coach Tonia Breeden said. “We are off to a great start after the break. Everyone got in the books tonight and that makes the win even sweeter.”

With only six players available to play, the JV Lady Raiders also used 6 points from freshman Symone Terry. Rounding out the scoring with two points each were Da’Veah Robinson and Jasmine Williams.

An 18-4 run in the first quarter set the tone early for Richmond, using 6 points each from Bostic and McLaughlin. Terry scored 4 points and Robinson added her lone bucket of the game.

Eleven more points by Richmond in the second gave the JV Lady Raiders a 29-13 halftime lead. Crowder got her scoring started with 4 points, Bostic added a three-pointer and both Terry and McLaughlin had a field goal.

Putting the game away in the third quarter, Richmond outscored Union Pines 24-5. Bostic found a rhythm for 15 points in the period, and Crowder added 6 points. The other 3 points were courtesy of McLaughlin.

Sealing the deal in the fourth, the JV Lady Raiders went on a 9-1 run. McLaughlin scored her final 4 points, Crowder rattled home a triple and Williams scored a field goal.

The JV Lady Raiders (4-2, 2-1) will travel to Lee County High School on Tuesday and look to extend their streak to three games. Play will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Note: The Richmond boys’ junior varsity team did not play on Friday, but will also return to action on Tuesday at Lee County.
