ROCKINGHAM — A trooper says “luckily” no one was injured in a wreck between a car and 18-wheeler Monday morning.

Lafeyette Covington, of Rockingham, was driving an Audi around 8:30 a.m. when he made a right turn off of St. Stephens Church Road on to U.S. 1 in the path of an tractor-trailer, according to Trooper Stien Davis of the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

The truck, driven by Clarence Vance, T-boned the car, totaling it, Davis said.

Vance, driving for Kevin Teauge Trucking out of of Liberty, had an empty load, according to Davis.

Although he wasn’t injured, Covington went to the hospital for unrelated medical issues, Davis said.

Covington was charged with failure to yield.
