FOXFIRE — A busy week of swinging the clubs for the Richmond Senior High School girls’ golf team resulted in 75% of the schedule being played.

Hindered by wet weather the past two weeks, the Lady Raiders and the other Mid-South Conference teams played their first full match and made up half of a rainout from earlier this month.

Originally scheduled to compete in two 18-hole matches, Richmond played a full match at Pinehurst No. 6 Tuesday before forecasted rain Wednesday cut its home match at Foxfire Resort to nine holes.

In both matches, the Lady Raiders finished in third place of the four qualifying teams.

Using the top three scores in both rounds, they finished their first 18-hole match with a final score of 350. On their home course, the Lady Raiders combined for a final team score of 169, their second-lowest nine-hole score of the season.

With those two third-place finishes, Richmond added six total points to its season conference standings. Currently, the Lady Raiders have 15.5 points and are in third place.

Pinecrest High School won both matches with scores of 219 (Pinehurst No. 6) and 111 (Foxfire). The Lady Patriots maintained their conference lead with 25 points.

Separating Richmond from Pinecrest was Jack Britt High School, which was second in both matches. The Lady Buccaneers lead Richmond in the standings by four points (19.5 points).

Head coach Kevin Wallace said he was proud of the team’s effort in both matches, saying all four Lady Raiders have shown improvement in different areas of their respective game.

Despite playing with a broken toe, sophomore Talley Webb continued her quest to return to the postseason by leading the Lady Raiders on the scorecard.

At Pinehurst No. 6, she shot a final score of 102. She posted a 49 on the front nine and followed with a 53 after the turn.

In her home match, Webb shot a 49 at Foxfire. Splitting the front and back nine at Foxfire, golfers played hole Nos. 1-5 and 15-18. Webb’s scores of 49 were tied for her second-lowest nine-hole round this season.

Freshman Cadence McIver and sophomore Kennedy Baldwin shot matching scores of 124 at Pinehurst No. 6. Both Lady Raiders had a 63 on the front and a 61 on the back nine.

A day later, McIver and Baldwin both finished their nine-hole round at Foxfire with a 60.

Rounding out the Lady Raiders’ effort on the course was sophomore Bayden Bendell. She shot a 123 at Pinehurst (64, 61) and tied McIver and Baldwin for second on the team with a 60 at Foxfire.

Richmond will play its final match of the regular season Tuesday at Gates Four Golf and Country Club. Golfers will tee off at 2 p.m.
