Two charged in home break-in near Hamlet

HAMLET — A man and woman are accused of breaking into a home this week.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call of a breaking and entering on Boyd Lake Road Feb. 26.

A family member had reportedly stopped to check on the residence and saw a truck — with two people inside — backed underneath the carport. That family member also reportedly noticed that the house had been broken into.

The suspects were identified as 33-year-old Brandon Scott Williamson and 31-year-old Alysha Lynette Cox, both of Rockingham.

Both were arrested and each charged with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.

Note: A press release from the sheriff’s office does not indicate what was allegedly stolen from the residence.

Cox is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.

Williamson was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and is being held without bond. Jail records show Williamson also has pending charges of failure to appear on a felony and failure to appear on a misdemeanor in Moore County, with a combined $8,000 secured bond.

Online court records viewed late Tuesday afternoon only showed traffic citations for Williamson. Cox has a pending court date for an out-of-county probation violation from earlier this year, as well as traffic citations from 2023.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Williamson is currently serving an 18-month suspended sentence following a conviction in May 2023 on charges of breaking and entering vehicles, larceny after breaking and entering, and receiving a stolen vehicle.

Williamson was first convicted in 2020 of felony larceny and two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. When his probation was revoked the following year, it appears a charge of larceny after breaking and entering was tacked on.

Records show Williamson served about a week behind bars, but was back in prison in less than two months on a post-release revocation.

Cox was convicted of misdemeanor larceny in 2021, and of driving while impaired in Scotland County the following year. She received probation in both cases.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
