PEMBROKE — The Office of Community and Civic Engagement at UNC Pembroke is leading the annual 9/11 Week of Service, which will be hosted in a virtual format to support social distancing and safety measures related to COVID-19.
From Sept. 8-12, the university will commemorate the historical events that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001.
The office encourages all members of BraveNation to engage in random acts of kindness throughout the week as a way to honor the individuals who were lost and injured in the attacks, to pay tribute to the first responders and citizens who volunteered and to recognize the many who work to protect our freedom each day.
UNCP Serve, the university’s web platform for connecting students with volunteer and service opportunities, provides a full list of 9/11 Week of Service engagements at: serve.uncp.edu/9-11weekofservice.
Highlights of the week will include:
September 8:
September 9:
September 10–11:
September 11-12
“Every year our office hosts 9/11 Day of Service to kick off service efforts for the semester and to remember the events of September 11. Though things will look a little different this year, we still want to pay tribute through serving our communities, especially with random acts of kindness where we know a small gesture can make a big difference in someone’s life,” explained Natural Love, assistant director for Community Engagement.
All are asked to reference CCE’s COVID-19 service strategies at uncp.edu/cce for guiding principles for university faculty, staff and students prior to engaging in service and to utilize hashtag #911WOS2020 throughout the week to further provide virtual connection to all engaging in service efforts.
