ROCKINGHAM — As the temperatures begin to drop, the United Way of Richmond County is calling on the community to help keep residents warm this winter through its Bundle Up Richmond Warm Winter Accessories Drive.
The drive runs from Nov. 1, 2025, through Jan. 15, 2026, and encourages community members to donate new warm winter accessories of all sizes for children and adults. Suggested items include earmuffs, toboggans, gloves, scarves, hats and socks.
“Winter can be especially tough for families who are already struggling to make ends meet,” said Michelle Parrish, executive director of United Way of Richmond County. “Something as simple as a warm hat or pair of gloves can make a big difference for someone in need.”
Last year, thanks to the generosity of the community, United Way of Richmond County distributed 419 toboggans, 1,479 pairs of socks, 818 pairs of gloves, 110 scarves, 45 coats, 9 blankets, and 50 bags to residents in need.
Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:
You can give individually, encourage your workplace to collect items, or organize a church or civic group drive to help support the cause.
All donated items will be distributed to local nonprofit agencies, including New Horizon’s Life and Family Services, Our Daily Bread, Samaritan Colony, Richmond County Homeless Children Program, and Richmond County Aging Services.
For those who would like to contribute but prefer to give financially, monetary donations can be made online at www.unitedwayrichmondnc.net.
“This project is a wonderful way for our community to come together and support neighbors of all ages during the cold months ahead,” Parrish added.
