ROCKINGHAM — A woman with charges pending in Moore County is accused of stealing a gun.

Melissa Catherine Rushing, 43, of Hamlet, allegedly stole a Glock 23 .40-caliber handgun on Oct. 11.

Rushing was arrested on a magistrate’s order and charged with larceny of a firearm. Because of her prior record, she was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

She was booked into the Richmond County Jail where she is being held on a combined $50,000 secured bond, and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 29.

Online records show Rushing has pending charges of misdemeanor larceny and possession of stolen goods or property in Moore County, stemming from a late-August arrest. She also has multiple pending traffic-related charges (which are listed as criminal) in Richmond County.

Several of those records list her middle name as “Caherine.”

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Rushing has the following prior convictions:

2008 - possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, driving while license revoked

2011 - possession of a controlled substance

2012 - misdemeanor larceny, second-degree trespassing (Scotland); misdemeanor larceny (Union)

2013 - misdemeanor child abuse

2018 - common law robbery, possessing stolen goods (Lee)

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
