OBITUARY: William Charles Sturdivant Jr.

Mr. William Charles Sturdivant Jr. (AKA Billy, Stud) of Norwood, peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 15, 2026 at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord.

He was born on May 11, 1963 to the late William (Bill) Sturdivant Sr. and the late Mozell Willoughby, formerly Mozell Sturdivant.

Billy confessed Christ at an early and later joined Thomas Chapel Baptist Church in Mount Gilead.

He attended Stanly County Schools and played football for South Stanly High School.

Billy had many trades and loved everywhere he worked. He worked in with Albemarle Spinning Mills, Pro Tire, Dunlap Construction, and worked as used car salesman in Norwood.

Billy had many passions and interests. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR racing activities, and showing off on his motorcycles. He loved telling jokes and laughing. Billy was a good cook and could clean a house better than most women.

Billy is preceded in death by his son, William Jamal Haywood; his father, William Sturdivant Sr.; his mother Mozell Willoughby (formerly Sturdivant); six brothers, Robert Edward Gaddy, Bobbie Connell, Danny Thomas Sturdivant, William Leon Sturdivant, Charlie Sturdivant and James Earl Sturdivant; and one sister, Darlene Sturdivant.

He is cherished and remembered by his wonderful wife, Tammy Baldwin Sturdivant; his eldest daughter, Monica Cox; three children from his marriage to Tammy, Cecile Sturdivant of Morven, Charles Danquan (Rashana) Sturdivant of Charlotte, and Courtney Sturdivant of Cheraw, South Carolina; and five grandchildren, Jaqualin Liles, Zuri Watkins-Sturdivant, David Watkins, Cameron Sturdivant and Royalty Watkins.

Billy also leaves to cherish his loving sisters and brothers, Janet (Michael) Huntley of Albermarle, Alberta Richardson of Cottonville, Brenda Pickett of Albermarle, Carolyn (Sam) Hough of Norwood, Patrice Sturdivant of Norwood, Ezon (Marva) Sturdivant of Ellerbe, and Terrence (Joyce) Sturdivant of Badin; two sisters-in-law, Edna Sturdivant and Linda Sturdivant; four aunts, an uncle, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held June 20 at Empowering Word Ministries in Wadesboro, followed by interment at Cedar Hill AME Zion Church Cemetery in Ansonville.
