Viewing the New Anson County Boat Landing

Posted

LILESVILLE - Tommy and Bonnie Davis enjoy riding their three-wheeled Kawasaki motorcycle on new adventures. Sunday was no exception as they rode their bike across the Pee Dee River to have a picnic at the all new Anson Co. boat landing on Blewett Falls Lake.

They were not the only ones checking out the new facility built on the shores of the river by N.C. Wildlife and Duke Power. Car after car circled the new paved parking lot while boaters enjoyed their boat ride on the lake.

On site are two new boat ramps, two bathroom facilities, picnic tables and a covered shelter. Also on the grounds are several trash cans to place your unwanted trash in.

“This is a very nice facility”, said Mr. Davis. “I hope we can get plenty of use out of it and above all keep it clean.”

Last week, a group of volunteers did just that by picking up trash along the shore and in the river itself. They said that what they picked up was just a drop in the bucket but every little bit counts. Their hope was that folks would be more self- conscious about throwing out their trash.

As my wife and I rode around the boat landing I was very pleased with what I saw except for a new beer can that someone had carelessly thrown out beside the road leading into the new public boating facility. The view of the facility and river is breath-taking as you enter the paved parking lot of the boat landing. On your right is a paved parking lot with a covered shelter, bathrooms and lot of picnic tables. Straight ahead lies a large parking lot for boaters and visitors alike. This location also has its own bathroom and then there’s also a pair of new boat ramps on your right just waiting for people to launch their boat.

A lot of man-hours, materials and landscaping went into this new project. I want to personally thank everyone who had a part in planning and building this new project for our public use. My wish is a lot like Mr. Davis’s and that is let’s use it but also leave it as clean as possible for our fellowman and future generations.
