ROCKINGHAM — Summer break for Richmond County students is just a week away, and with it come a host of athletic summer camp opportunities.

One of the first camps on the calendar to be hosted by Richmond Senior High School is the volleyball program’s annual development camp.

Returning for its seventh summer, the Lady Raider volleyball camp is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10 through Friday, June 12.

The three-day camp is open to girls’ who are rising first graders to rising fifth graders. The cost for each camper is $45, plus an additional $3.25 processing fee on GoFan.

The registration link is now open.

Each session will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Richmond’s gymnasium and conclude each day at 10:30 a.m.

Last year’s camp had 25 elementary-aged participants and head coach Ashleigh Larsen hopes to see that number grow this summer.

Larsen shared the camp’s mission is to grow the sport in the area and “teach, educate and raise the level of volleyball skills for the campers, as well as teach the team concept. This will lead to success on the volleyball court through middle and high school.”

Helping with instruction during the camp will be current and former Lady Raider players, which campers have enjoyed the last several years.

Larsen added that the focus will be on the sport’s fundamentals with the younger age group, including passing, serving and hitting drills.

The Richmond volleyball program intends to release information about upcoming clinics for rising sixth to rising eighth graders soon.

Larsen can be contacted via email at ashleighlarsen@richmond.k12.nc.us.
