'Walk for a Cure' in Rockingham raises $981

ROCKINGHAM — The fourth annual “Walk for a Cure” on Saturday brought in more than $900 for the American Cancer Society.

According to Heather Guinn, manager of the Richmond County Cancer Care Treasure Shop, there were 45 participants for the walk from the store to Walmart and back.

That event alone raised $981, Guinn said, adding that the store will keep collecting until the end of October, which is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Treasure Shop opened in 2018 to support Relay for Life. Owner Rodney Gandy told the RO prior to the walk and benefit concert in 2023 that his nonprofit business had raised $100,000 in the previous five years.

Guinn said there are plans to restart Relay for Life in Richmond County, and there will be a meeting for those interested in helping in early 2025.

Anyone interested is encouraged to contact Gandy or Guinn at 910-817-9342.
