ROCKINGHAM — A man with several pending charges within the past month has been arrested again.
This time, James Dwight Russell III, 36, is accused of using a stolen credit card to purchase $67.66 worth of gasoline at a local station on July 9.
The Rockingham Police Department obtained a warrant for Russell’s arrest on July 14, charging him with one felony count of obtaining property by false pretenses.
Russell was arrested four days later and booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $15,000 secured bond.
According to jail records, Russell is being held on an additional $5,000 secured bond on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and injury to personal property, however those warrants could not be found on eCourts Monday afternoon.
As of Monday, Russell was still in jail. He is scheduled to appear in court July 24.
Police reportedly found a camper stolen from a Hamlet storage facility on Russell’s property last month and he was charged with possession of stolen goods. Earlier this month, Russell was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.
Online court records show Russell also has pending charges of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as multiple pending traffic citations.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Russell was first convicted of misdemeanor larceny in 2011.
In 2017, Russell was convicted in Stanly County of assault with a deadly weapon.
He was also convicted in 2021 of felony breaking and entering and possessing stolen goods. His probation in that case was revoked the following year and Russell was incarcerated for three months.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
