ROCKINGHAM — A man on probation from a conviction earlier this year is accused of stealing from a neighbor.
According to warrants, 27-year-old Charles Earl Summers, of Horseshoe Road in the southern end of the county broke into a neighboring home March 14, stealing guns and jewelry.
Summers is accused of stealing: a Marlin .44 magnum repeater rifle; a Remington 30-06 rifle; a 12-gauge pump shotgun; a double-barrel 12-gauge stagecoach shotgun; a 20-gauge pump shotgun; a Remington .410 shotgun; a Colt Python .357-caliber magnum revolver; and a Remington .22-caliber single-shot rifle.
Warrants allege Summers also stole a large amount of cash from a safe, and two rings worth a combined $10,000.
Summers was arrested March 19 and charged with: eight counts of larceny of a firearm; three counts of felony larceny; one count of felony breaking and entering; and one misdemeanor count of injury to real property.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held on a combined $35,000 secured bond. Summers is scheduled to appear in court April 3.
Court records show Summers already has two pending counts of driving while license revoked from 2024.
Summers is currently serving a 12-month suspended sentence after being convicted of misdemeanor larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia on Jan. 30.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
