ROCKINGHAM —  It is with great joy and pride that the General Henry William Harrington Chapter congratulates Stephanie Dawkins on being awarded the $500 Helen Pouch Memorial Class Grant, presented by the NSDAR Junior Membership Committee. This award celebrates Dawkins' extraordinary commitment to education and her innovative approach to engaging young minds.

The Helen Pouch Memorial Class Grant, established in memory of Helen Pouch — a passionate advocate for outstanding education and community service — has a longstanding history of empowering teachers to bring imaginative projects to life. With this grant, educators receive essential funding to:

  • Introduce modern technology and creative learning tools into the classroom;
  • Develop interactive projects that captivate and educate students; and
  • Foster an environment where critical thinking and academic growth flourish.

Dawkins, a dedicated fifth-grade ELA and Social Studies teacher at West Rockingham Elementary School, brings 20 years of diverse teaching experience to her classrooms. Her roots in first-, third-, and fifth-grade education have shaped a passionate commitment to nurturing the potential of every child.

Stephanie’s project, titled "Bringing the American Revolution to Life: An Interactive Timeline for 5th Grade Students," exemplifies her bold vision to transform history lessons into dynamic, hands-on learning experiences. Through this engaging initiative, students will explore the events of the American Revolution in an immersive and interactive format, deepening their understanding of historical narratives and the significance of civic values.

Reflecting on her teaching journey, Dawkins expresses: "Teaching has always been more than a profession to me — it’s a calling. There is an unparalleled joy in watching children grasp new concepts, develop critical thinking skills, and grow academically and personally. Knowing that I have played a part in their growth and success is a deeply rewarding experience."

The General Henry William Harrington Chapter, along with the NSDAR Junior Membership Committee, applauds Dawkins for her visionary approach and unwavering dedication to the children of Richmond County. A special note of gratitude goes to Principal Joy Watson for her outstanding leadership and for fostering an environment where innovation in education can thrive. Their combined efforts illuminate the path toward enriched learning experiences for every student.
