FAYETTEVILLE — An 11-day break between games didn’t have much negative impact on the Richmond Senior High School junior varsity softball team.

Back on the diamond Tuesday, the JV Lady Raiders began Mid-South Conference action at Pine Forest High School.

Extending their winning streak to five games, the JV Lady Raiders mercy-ruled the JV Lady Trojans 23-0 in three innings.

Richmond scored five runs in the first inning, broke the game open 16 runs in the second inning and added two more runs in the third inning.

Freshman Autumn Cooper started in the circle and allowed one hit and one walk. After loading the bases in the first inning, Cooper was replaced by freshman Lyra Newton.

Newton threw all three innings and didn’t allow a hit. She walked one batter and struck out eight JV Lady Trojans.

Sophomore Kaylee Connor was the biggest bat during the game for Richmond, going 3-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run, a double and a team-high five runs batted in.

Fellow sophomores Liz Lunceford and Annabelle Millen each finished the game with one hit and three RBI.

Newton drove in two runs, and Cooper, Grace Hill, Haylee McCaskill, Jordyn Chappell and Jasey Braddock each had one RBI. Hill finished with two hits.

The JV Lady Raiders (6-1, 1-0 MSC) host Pine Forest Friday at 4:30 p.m. to end the regular-season series.
