GREENSBORO — Opening its three-day holiday tournament Thursday, the Richmond Senior High School girls’ basketball team extended its winning streak.

Ending a nearly two-week hiatus between games, the Lady Raiders notched their sixth straight victory.

Playing in the Carolina Christmas Classic at Northwest Guilford High School, Richmond defeated Charlotte Country Day School 49-42.

Combining for 36 points were senior point guard Jamyia Lindsey (game-high 19 points) and junior guard Jasiah Gilchrist (17 points).

Helping keep the Lady Raiders in the win column was sophomore Madisen Jackson and her eight points. Senior Rena Drake (3 points) and junior Olivia Brown (2 points) rounded out the scoring.

Richmond rolled to a 10-0 lead after the opening quarter. Gilchrist and Lindsey each had four points early on and Drake had her lone field goal of the game.

Taking a 22-13 lead into the halftime break, the Lady Raiders were led by Jackson’s four points on two buckets in the second quarter. All five of Richmond’s scorers in the game scored in the second.

A trio of baskets from Gilchrist in the third stanza gave her a team-high six points, which was added to by Lindsey’s five points, courtesy of a three-pointer and a field goal. Jackson’s final four points made it a 37-27 lead.

Despite being outscored in the last eight-minute period, Richmond held on for the win. Lindsey netted eight points on two baskets and four free throws, with Gilchrist adding a shot from the floor and two points from the line.

The Lady Raiders (8-3) will play against Gray Collegiate Academy (4-3) Friday at 4 p.m. The game will be held at Northwest Guilford.
