ROCKINGHAM — A Hamlet woman is accused of stealing a car and selling it for scrap late last year.

According to an arrest warrant, 38-year-old Lillian Danielle Malloy stole a 1994 Mazda 929 and sold it to a recycling center in Hoffman in November of 2024.

Although the warrant doesn’t specify how much cash she received for the car, it does indicate the vehicle was valued at $400.

The warrant was issued March 25 and Malloy was arrested April 2, charged with one felony count of obtaining property by false pretenses and one misdemeanor count of larceny of a motor vehicle.

The latter charge is a misdemeanor because the car is valued at less than $1,000.

Malloy was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $1,500 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court April 17.

Court records show Malloy has faced criminal charges before, but they have been dismissed and she appears to have no prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
