ROCKINGHAM — A woman is accused of severely stabbing another on the Fourth of July.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a home on Safie 1st Street in East Rockingham around 7 p.m. Friday, July 4 to find a woman with a stab wound.

One of the first deputies to arrive reportedly started administering first aid until EMS could arrive. That deputy continued to maintain pressure on the wound while the victim was taken to the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators say the victim was transferred to a trauma center and was still there the evening of July 7.

Another woman who lives in the home, 21-year-old Sally Mae Taylor, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury.

Taylor was booked into the Richmond County Jail where she is being held on a $25,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 17.

Records appear to show Taylor has no other pending charges or prior convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
