World Karting Association moves races from the Rock

ROCKINGHAM — One event initially on Rockingham Speedway’s schedule for 2025 has been moved to another track.

The World Karting Association, which was slated for a race weekend in late March, announced Jan. 29 that it would not be returning to the Rock this year.

According to a press release, races were planned for the oval and infield road course. However, after “further evaluation and feedback from WKA competitors, and consultation with the track,” the decision was made to move the event to Nashville Superspeedway.

“As the construction process continues, projects shift to areas that NASCAR requires, and we wanted to ensure we could put on the best possible event for our teams and competitors,” WKA President Kevin Williams said in the release. “The original thought was to transition from the speedway oval onto the infield road course but as the conversations continued, WKA felt it best to support Rockingham in their quest for an amazing NASCAR event, so they can schedule more NASCAR … events in the future.

“Due to WKA’s rich history at Rockingham,” Williams continued, “we are in full support of Rockingham’s resurgence and plan to schedule events there in the future when the time is right.”

The WKA announcement came the day after drivers in both the Craftsman Truck and Xfinity series were at the Rock for testing, hitting speeds on the relatively fresh pavement faster than previous records.
